Yes, I think that's what he was referring to. Probably from the same parent object that had alredy broken apart and were traveling basically together.

Probably from the same parent object that had alredy broken apart and were traveling basically together.

Likely unrelated, the two meteors were coming from different trajectories.

That's a very interesting article. I didn't notice the date on the article, but it seems "they" are still trying to determine where the Russian meteorite came from, so perhaps it's not definitve yet that it and the near miss are related. All in all though, and considering the 2013 near miss wasn't mentioned at the time, one has to wonder how accurate the prediction of a near miss coming up in a few years (2029 as I recall) is. I know that the issue of asteroid impacting the earth was being looked at within NASA long before 2013.
