Opportunity Rover: Blueberries was created by Todd
Since we've been talking about Martian "blueberries" this week, with the Curiosity sol 1555 image and Will's video , I thought I'd start a thread of Opportunity blueberries for comparison purposes and discussion. I'll start with a few RGB Panoramic images from Opportunity Rover, these images were processed from the PDS raw .img files and the filters were stacked for RGB color.

Sol 27

Sol 49

Sol 50

Sol 109

The Opportunity samples were found to be rich in hematite, a mix of oxygen and iron found in sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rock on Earth. The above images have larger pieces of what appear to be the same material in them. There are a few origin theories out there like concretions, possibly biological in origin, meteors or volcanic tektites. Those appear to be the three most popular. I'm leaning toward the concretion theory based on how embedded they are into the surrounding material and the blue color, which may be the most anomalous aspect of the blueberries. If the material in the sol 1555 image is the same, then the blueberries exist in a second location. Reference material and a little light reading on the blueberries and related topics in the links below. ;)

I'm surprised Mars doesn't look blue with all those blue rocks laying around.

If I remember correctly, most thought the Earth would look green until we actually had satellites in space.

Thank you to everyone who has stuck by the YouTube channel and to all of our admins and forum users here on the channel.   They really have kept the website current while I have been busy taking care of things in my personal life.   I promised that the next video would be a long one and have a LOT to look at.  You can get lost in these Gigapans and I really hope that you do!  I spent a lot of time stitching these together and making sure that they were the best quality that I could get them.  SOL 1448 really has been a goldmine for anomaly hunters and those people who are just hobbiest.  I really hope you enjoy this one and expect much more to come from the latest batches of images!
