my first impression was an indexing rotatory head used on a milling machine. I used these many times while machining round parts with bolt circles. it even has a large part number cast clearly on the side. other pieces around this object could be the remains of a machine shop. could the thing I outlined be an anvil ?

It looks mechanical to me. I can't make up my mind what I think it is more specifically. It could be one of several different parts and the more I look at it the more different interpretations I see.
