Curiosity Sol 706 MAHLI Cam Image: Water, Walls, & Pictoglyphs? was created by Todd

This is a MAHLI-cam image taken from the Curiosity Rover on Sol 706, the first day on the drive to "Hidden Valley." The image was processed from the PDS raw DRCL .img file. Below, the original orientation and one rotated 180°.

One of the bizarre features present is a figure 8 disturbance in the martian sand originating from underneath the protruding landform, perhaps made by underground water (enlargement below).

The etched marks in the side of this sample resemble pictoglyphs similar to ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs.

Are these protruding landforms just materials that have been broken down and separated from erosion or are we looking at an ancient wall or structure that has been partially uncovered (below)?

Hey Todd, great images as always, check out Sol 707 for better images of the area.

Below is a crop from a composite I put together and is the same area as your 3rd image.
I believe the area was a huge wall of murals containing many things and as you can see I have circled the items I think are interesting. I know, I know pareidolia.

Thanks Harry, I should probably add the relevant frames in here too. The Curiosity sol 707 right mast-cam images below were processed from the PDS raw DRCL .img files.

Thank you to everyone who has stuck by the YouTube channel and to all of our admins and forum users here on the channel.
