This photograph (ESP_018825_2650) was taken by NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) HiRISE Camera on 02 August 2010.

NASA describes this photograph as "Fractures in North Polar Layered Deposits."

This must be the weirdest Mars anomaly I’ve discovered to date.

I can only call it 'The Thing.'

Is it an oblong hill sticking out of dark hole or an organism or just a dark hole with a red cliff face? It looks like a massive slug. Check-out the light being reflected to the right of the anomaly.

Is it convex or concave?

I estimate its length to be 80 metres and it’s the only one in this vast landscape.

Original NASA source: hirise.lpl.arizona.edu/ESP_018825_2650

I downloaded the HiRise Merged RGB Map-Projected JP2 file to view this anomaly.

Is this a natural geological formation or perhaps something else?

Thank you to everyone who has stuck by the YouTube channel and to all of our admins and forum users here on the channel.   They really have kept the website current while I have been busy taking care of things in my personal life.   I promised that the next video would be a long one and have a LOT to look at.  You can get lost in these Gigapans and I really hope that you do!  I spent a lot of time stitching these together and making sure that they were the best quality that I could get them.  SOL 1448 really has been a goldmine for anomaly hunters and those people who are just hobbiest.  I really hope you enjoy this one and expect much more to come from the latest batches of images!
