A column and a broken piece of it's base sits well with me.
Then there is more and more layering. If these layers are sediment, then some liquid would have had to flood and ebb many times. If it was water, as in an ocean, then I would expect to find, or at least look for in the sediment, life forms; fossilized shells, etc.
If these layers are some kind of manufactured material then they are definitely worth closer examination.
On the left below, this looks kind of like the right half of a hexagon to me. It definitely has some straight edges. What could cause these?

That piece in the bottom image sure has a kind of Star Wars / Stargate look to it. It looks like something off the top of a sarcophagus. Hmm, I can see the headline now, "Alien Hunter finds Darth Vader statue on Mars."
