check Curiosity Rover Sol 1441 Composite: Landform or Ancient Structure?

7 years 7 months ago #6211 by Todd
This is a composite made up of five right mastcam images taken on sol 1441 . The landform has multiple "tiers" and a vertical section that resembles interlocking block construction. The images were adjusted for noise and color.

Below, an enlargement of the interlocking "wall" section. There's something else weird going on here, too.

The feature is quite large and my panoramic image only covers one end. I should note this one, a right mastcam image also taken on sol 1441, which show more strange features on the top left portion of the formation.

I made a mosaic consisting of 47 right mastcam images taken of the feature on sol 1448 . The mosaic is reduced from its original size of 13903 x 4676.

Below is a three frame composite made from right mastcam images taken of the formation on sol 1448. I think it shows several examples of a construction site, now crumbling with age. There appear to be base skeleton walls present with a softer filler material, which now appears to be partially falling out.

There's also a better look at this feature from sol 1448, which Will has mentioned in his most recent video.

Here are more examples showcasing the complexities of the formation from the right mastcam images taken on sol 1448. Notice the hinge or "L" shaped debris sample in the two frame composite below (center, right).

Thank you to everyone who has stuck by the YouTube channel and to all of our admins and forum users here on the channel.   They really have kept the website current while I have been busy taking care of things in my personal life.   I promised that the next video would be a long one and have a LOT to look at.  You can get lost in these Gigapans and I really hope that you do!  I spent a lot of time stitching these together and making sure that they were the best quality that I could get them.  SOL 1448 really has been a goldmine for anomaly hunters and those people who are just hobbiest.  I really hope you enjoy this one and expect much more to come from the latest batches of images!
