Curiosity Sol 388: Compact Formation Made from Multiple Objects was created by Todd

This is a Curiosity right mastcam image taken on sol 388, while the rover was on the drive to "Panorama Point." The image appears to show a solid mass formed by a mix of other materials. The concretion is pretty unique in appearance and seemingly made from slightly larger objects then the ancient streambed remnants . The left side of the object appears to sit just above the ground. This image was processed from the PDS raw DRCL .img file, enlargement below.

that's is very interesting Todd, as it seems to be setting in an area that don't fit with it's surrounding's what I'm wondering is what might be in that concretion. nasa should do more testing on these things, as it could tell us a great amount of information. I keep looking at the way that left end of concretion is lifted off the surface. I wonder if it's from erosion over time, or simply the loss of any liquid water that might have been there at one time. good stuff Todd, thank you.. Ben..

Thanks Ben. That was the only image taken of that formation to my knowledge and the rover is now long gone, so unfortunately we'll never know what those materials were. At the very least, it indicates water, possibly something more.
