unfortunately the damage on the middle wheel has gotten worse. the wheel has maintained it's shape although & the cracks don't continue to the outer edge. I think that a rock could become lodged into one of the holes & cause more of a problem. I also think that NASA took a big risk with their designed logo holes from the beginning! if I had done that design , then with my luck, a rock would have lodged in the first 50 feet.

The wheels surely should have a different design. Imagine some knobby tires. Its not like it is doing burnouts. The outside of the metal could have been wrapped in a knobby type of tire and even if it fell off since it would not have air in it.. It would just fall off and the metal wheel below (like is there now) will keep on going. Curiosity could go 14 years on the battery at 125 watts and after the 14 years the plutonium-238 will have decayed enough to drop the wattage to 100 watts. The system could possibly function all the way down to 50 watts. But the wheels will be gone by then!

Eventually they will probably be driving backwards. Between Sol 1285 and Sol 1308 there have been a few drive failures for various reasons, however the RTG short seems to be the most common problem lately.

Thank you to everyone who has stuck by the YouTube channel and to all of our admins and forum users here on the channel.   They really have kept the website current while I have been busy taking care of things in my personal life.   I promised that the next video would be a long one and have a LOT to look at.  You can get lost in these Gigapans and I really hope that you do!  I spent a lot of time stitching these together and making sure that they were the best quality that I could get them.  SOL 1448 really has been a goldmine for anomaly hunters and those people who are just hobbiest.  I really hope you enjoy this one and expect much more to come from the latest batches of images!
