AS16-P-4558: Unique Structures in Descartes was created by Todd
The
ancient crater Descartes
was taken by the Apollo 16 panoramic camera in frame AS16-P-4558. Several large structures appear within the crater and the most interesting ones tend to surround varying levels of elevation. The images below were processed from various NASA/JSC/ASU raw tif tiles. Directly below, an example of multi-leveled Lunar topography, several platforms with structures that tapper off with the embankment.
Below, unusually busy topography with structures resembling walled enclosures.
A closer look reveals that there are some unusual objects leaning against the embankment in the zoomed crop below.
Below, a weird and dark sphinx like object at center, surrounded by other bizarre structures.

Yes, It does, a large one. There is a large object in the center of that image. It has a base to it and almost looks something like a large chess piece. I had to push this one but there a few discernible details.

The target in the first crop looks like a structure that has collapsed revealing it's innards.

Thank you to everyone who has stuck by the YouTube channel and to all of our admins and forum users here on the channel. They really have kept the website current while I have been busy taking care of things in my personal life. I promised that the next video would be a long one and have a LOT to look at. You can get lost in these Gigapans and I really hope that you do! I spent a lot of time stitching these together and making sure that they were the best quality that I could get them.
