NOTE: I am NOT an advocate of being afraid of asteroids. While it is true that asteroids (and comets) have struck the Earth in the past with cataclysmic results, the record indicates that these impacts occur only on extremely rare occasions and these impacting objects are of such large size that our present…publicly available…technologies are incapable of defending Earth against them.

According to Dr. Carol Rosin, Dr. Werner von Braun’s personal assistant , von Braun did, on more than one occasion, state that America’s first need for defense would be the Soviet Union, then the threat would be terrorists, then the threat would be “nations of concern,” then the threat would be asteroids, then the threat would be extra-terrestrials.

Given the passage of time, the focus for American defense has shifted from the Soviet Union, which no longer exists, (continuing) through terrorism, (continuing) through “nations of concern,” and is now focused on asteroids, the next to the last threat in Dr. von Braun’s scenario.

I posted this article because it shows NASA (Never A Straight Answer) attempting to instill fear of asteroids in the reader. By coupling advanced asteroid location technologies with statistical manipulation, NASA presents a somewhat frightening scenario in this article.

While I don’t have precise quotable figures (The reader can surf them up for themselves.) I do recall some years ago when a near-Earth asteroid was defined as one that passed within several hundred thousand miles of Earth. Nowadays a near-Earth asteroid is defined as one that passes several MILLION miles from Earth, thus greatly increasing the number of near-Earth asteroids than would be given this name by the earlier definition.

That being said, I posted this article here because it definitely rattles this skeleton.

Thank you to everyone who has stuck by the YouTube channel and to all of our admins and forum users here on the channel. They really have kept the website current while I have been busy taking care of things in my personal life. I promised that the next video would be a long one and have a LOT to look at. You can get lost in these Gigapans and I really hope that you do! I spent a lot of time stitching these together and making sure that they were the best quality that I could get them.
