check Curiosity Sol 741 Composite: Strange Formation

7 years 10 months ago - 6 years 11 months ago #5533 by Todd
This is a composite image made from two Curiosity right mastcam images taken on Sol 741 by the rover while on the drive to Mt. Sharp. Some strange shapes are present within the layers of the land formation. The images were processed from the PDS raw DRCX .img files.

Thanks. I can't really make up my mind if this large formation is the product of sediment layering and erosion OR if it is manufactured, perhaps some kind of foundation or sub-foundation or something else. There is definitely rectilinear patterning here. My eye tended toward a relatively good sized cube near the center in a couple of them.

Couple this with at least one apparent semi-cubic opening on the right in a couple of these images, and my "manufactured" meter tips toward 'MANUFACTURED.' I suppose only time will tell.

...Thinking a little further, if it IS manufactured, perhaps it is part of the roof of a sub-surface structure.

I suppose it could also be a bit of both, manufactured items and stuff getting mixed within the layers over the ages.

Thank you to everyone who has stuck by the YouTube channel and to all of our admins and forum users here on the channel.   They really have kept the website current while I have been busy taking care of things in my personal life.   I promised that the next video would be a long one and have a LOT to look at.  You can get lost in these Gigapans and I really hope that you do!  I spent a lot of time stitching these together and making sure that they were the best quality that I could get them.  SOL 1448 really has been a goldmine for anomaly hunters and those people who are just hobbiest.  I really hope you enjoy this one and expect much more to come from the latest batches of images!
