This image was taken by the Curiosity Rover's left mastcam on Sol 632. An exotic looking object appears attached to the protruding broken crustal layers. The image below was processed from the pds raw .img file.

Okay, but this is what caught my attention. What natural process makes flat square rocks and elevates them?

The whole surface area appears like it was once affected by tectonic activity. The elevation may be due to materials which have eroded and moved beneath the slab.

Thank you. Now, what made it square?

I would need a second image from a slightly different perspective to confirm how square the object actually is, unfortunately one doesn't seem to exist. It does appear to have somewhat broken uneven layered edges, so without a second image, I would say offhand the cause is a combination of tectonic activity and random chance.

The slabs do look like concrete or sedimentary materials, so who knows, maybe they were once paved and what we're looking at is a broken piece of "walkway" or road.

Or maybe they are scales from a giant Sandworm .

Oops, wrong planet! That would be Arrakis .

Thank you to everyone who has stuck by the YouTube channel and to all of our admins and forum users here on the channel.   They really have kept the website current while I have been busy taking care of things in my personal life.   I promised that the next video would be a long one and have a LOT to look at.  You can get lost in these Gigapans and I really hope that you do!  I spent a lot of time stitching these together and making sure that they were the best quality that I could get them.  SOL 1448 really has been a goldmine for anomaly hunters and those people who are just hobbiest.  I really hope you enjoy this one and expect much more to come from the latest batches of images!
